TRIP LEADER'S NAME: Tony Jambu ( 1178 )
DESCRIPTION/LOCATION: Due to the fires around the Dargo area, we have had to postponed the “REAL 20th Original Australia Day-Vic High Country Long “ weekend trip to 2027. In its place, we have a new venue but for a smaller number of vehicles and preference will be given to those that had already registered for my trip. Where is this place? On the Buckland River near Porepunkah. Let’s support this town that was badly affected by the lockdown in winter due to a major incident. The actual campsite will be emailed to those attending. (Tony’s Secret Camping Spot# 3). The campsite is an official Parks campsite and has a drop toilet. The activities planned are - Tubing down the Buckland River - Visiting Mt Buffalo & its Chalet - The Horn - Lake Catani - Lady Bath Falls & Eurobin Falls - 4WD tracks eg Mt Selwyn - Brown Brothers Winery We will reserve some places for new members for them to experience the club’s culture and make new friends. The rest of the agenda and date are the same. Each day, the trips will be split into 3 or more groups so that you have a choice between the trips. They will be led by experienced TLs. Some trips will be more suited for experienced members while others with just Proficiency grade. You have the option of staying in camp, swimming and relaxing by the river or make short trips into the Bright, Hothem or Dinner Plains. This year, Australia Day falls on the Monday, our last day of camp. ‘Officially’ it’s a 5 days/4 nights camp. However, attendees can come anytime and leave earlier if they so wish. There will groups going out to the campsite earlier to ‘book’ the area. The traditional (but optional) communal Australia Day meal will be held the Saturday 24rd Jan. This is an optional event and members can share roasts, salads, vegies and desserts. More detail to come later. The other days, we will also be having the traditional Pizza night (probably Friday night) where you will have the opportunity to make your own pizza. This is popular amongst the children as they get to design their own pizza. We will try to be back for Happy Hour most days but for the longer trips will be slightly late coming back.

DESCRIPTION/LOCATION: Rafting, tubing, canoeing down the Yarra River around Warburton. Come one. Come all. Small kids. Big kids. We all wanted to do this before and this is your opportunity. This event is specifically for families and bigger kids to spend the day just having fun splashing and having water fights as we drift down thru Warburton. We expect this to take 1-2 hours and would suggest bring along a light lunch to stop along the way and enjoy lunch at a secluded spot. Participants are expected to be able to swim and poor swimmers will be required to have a minimum of a L50 PFD (life vest). Confident swimmers, use your own judgement. Parents with younger kids should have 1-on-1 supervision. Depending on the size and ages of participant, we will commence at the appropriate jump point. More details will be forthcoming to registered members. List of things to consider bringing along 1. Minimum of a L50 PFD (life vest) 2. Sand/beach shoes 3. Sunscreen 4. Light lunch / snack We will meet at a designated spot and drop off all our gear and passengers. Drivers will then drive to the Pick Up spot down the river and leave their vehicles behind. This means we will need some kind volunteers to help ferry these drivers up to the starting location. Any volunteers please? ************************** *** Optional Activities *** ************************** A few members will be staying the weekend at the Warburton Holiday Park. They have river frontage for those just wanting to play in front of the park. Bring your van or tent if you want and spots are limited. Pays to book ASAP. Fires are allowed in contained fireplaces. Other activities. If you are staying the night, suggest a visit to the world-renowned Redwood Forrest. It’s a beautiful site to visit. Plus lots of vineries in the area. Why not plan for a Club Trip for Sunday for these activities. Starting from this location.

TRIP LEADER'S NAME: Peter Symons ( 1577 )
DESCRIPTION/LOCATION: The last Simpson Desert trip we did was such a great experience on so many levels that we thought it was time to do it again. At this stage, the plan is for a three-week trip, starting and finishing in Melbourne. We would drive from Melbourne to Hahndorf, mainly to break up the drive and, more importantly, to stop for a kitchener bun. From there we would continue on to Coober Pedy, spending some time exploring the area before heading north to Mt Dare. After refuelling and final preparations at Mt Dare, we would head east across the Simpson Desert, potentially via the QAA Line, finishing in Birdsville. Once in Birdsville, the usual formalities would apply — a beer at the pub, the obligatory photo out the front, refuel, and a general vehicle check. From Birdsville, the plan would be to head back west to Mt Dare, likely via the French Line, making this a full desert crossing in both directions (route choices are very much open for discussion). After returning to Mt Dare, we would make our way south to Marree, with the option of doing a scenic flight over the Marree Man if conditions and interest allow. From Marree, it’s then the long run back to Melbourne and the unavoidable return to normal life. The outline above is not set in stone. Route choices, timing, and side trips will be discussed with those coming along — partly to make sure everyone is happy, and partly so responsibility can be evenly shared if something goes wrong.

Would you like to be able to do simple mechanical repairs with a degree of understanding that you have not experienced before. Know that the parts you are spending your money on are actually needed and are being fitted to the car. Then come and participate in our mechanical awareness course.
Topics covered will be basic operation of your vehicle to give you a better understanding of how it all works; this can lead to you being able to tackle simple maintenance and repair tasks yourself e.g.
Tool identification and use, brake pad changing, oil and filter & other service items, minor electrical work are just some of the tasks you will be able to perform at the completion of the course. There is also a large amount of practical training not just theory involved in the course and in a lot of cases you will be able to perform work on your own vehicle. All cars will be placed on the hoist for you to have a better understanding of what is going on under the vehicle
