TRIP LEADER'S NAME: Peter Symons ( 1577 )
DESCRIPTION/LOCATION: Well, it’s on again… After the last Dargo to Walhalla Explorer, so much fun was had that it only seemed right to do it all over again. So here we are — Dargo to Walhalla Explorer II is happening! When & Where We’ll be departing from the Dargo River Inn at 7:30 AM on Saturday, January 3rd. It’s probably wise to head up to Dargo on Friday night and camp there so we’re ready to roll bright and early on the Saturday morning. (plus, we can get Kelly to cook us a nice pub Parma Friday Night) The Plan Our first stop is Talbotville, before heading down the Crooked River Track — a casual warm-up with around 30 river crossings to get into the swing of things. From there, we’re into the next 230 km of off-road adventure, meandering along scenic tracks that will lull us into a false sense of security… before tackling a few gnarly climbs and raging torrents that’ll keep us honest! Overnight About halfway through, we’ll set up camp for the night — a chance to swap stories of the day’s escapades, revisit past adventures, enjoy a few drinks, and throw some meat on the fire before drifting into a well-earned slumber. The Finish Day two sees us back into it, working our way to Walhalla, and finally Erica, where we’ll celebrate with a well-deserved Hot Stone Steak at the Erica Pub. Trip complete! Vehicle & Gear This trip can be challenging. The rivers shouldn’t be too high ( ), but the tracks can get scrambly in spots. Make sure you’ve got: Good tires (lockers highly recommended) Front and rear recovery points A solid sense of humor And of course, a healthy sense of adventure!

TRIP LEADER'S NAME: Tony Jambu ( 1178 )
DESCRIPTION/LOCATION: This is the REAL 20th Original Australia Day-Vic High Country Long weekend trip. Last year’s 20th was a furphy. Someone can’t count. We’ve never missed a single year. Even during the Covid lockdowns and 2 major fires. We’ve had it at 4 different campsites with numbers from as small as 12 vehicles to over 60 vehicles. This trip’s original intent was to cater for families with kids and new members. It has remained true to it original intent. For new members, it a great opportunity to experience the club’s culture in the Victorian High Country. We continue to host this event at Talbotville for its central location in the Eastern VHC. This year we will have the ‘luxury’ of having 2 brand new dunnies situated near the central trees in the old township. This will be our base camp where there will be 4-5 trips going out per day for you to choose from. We have registered with Parks Victoria for the club to host this event at this venue. It has a large open space and green grassy area for the kids to muck around and spread out our tents and campers. The safety of the group is paramount and the choice of base camp may be changed depending on the fire situation in the region at that time. Each day, the trips will be split into 4 or more groups so that you have a choice between the trips. They will be led by experienced TLs. Some trips will be more suited for experienced members while others with just Proficiency grade. There’s even night driving for those interested. You have the option of staying in camp, swimming and relaxing by the river or make short trips into the surrounding high country ghost towns fossicking for relics. Examples of trip destinations are Blue Rag Ridge, Billy Goat Bluff tk, The Pinnacle, Wannagatta valley, Haunted Stream Track and the family favourite Tony’s special swimming hole with a ‘waterfall. Trips are likely to change due to weather and interests shown by members. Some trips may be run by two different TLs on different days. This event has evolved over the years to now include Sunrise at Blue Rag, floating down the Crooked River, glowstick nights and pyrotechnics nights. Member are welcome to conduct any trips or activities. This year, Australia Day falls on the Monday, our last day of camp. ‘Officially’ it’s a 5 days/4 nights camp. However, attendees can come anytime and leave earlier if they so wish. There will groups going out to the campsite earlier to ‘book’ the area. The traditional (but optional) communal Australia Day meal will be held the Saturday 24rd Jan. This is an optional event and members can share roasts, salads, vegies and desserts. More detail to come later. The other days, we will also be having the traditional Pizza night (probably Friday night) where you will have the opportunity to make your own pizza. This is popular amongst the children as they get to design their own pizza. Thanks to Ed for the pizza ovens. We will try to be back for Happy Hour most days but for the longer trips will be slightly late coming back. You may need to bring additional fuel or refuel at Dargo at end of day.
TRIP MEETING ADDRESS: Outbound Officer BP Roadhouse on the Pakenham bypass just past the overhead bridge for a 8:00 am sharp departure.

DESCRIPTION/LOCATION: This is the annual Eaglevale trip over the Australia day weekend. We will base camp at Eaglevale on the Wannagatta river near Dargo. I have been running trips to this area for several years and have a great camp spot for this trip. From here we will do some day trips on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. You will have the option to stay back and relax at camp or do the day trips. I plan on taking one of the day trips into the Wannagatta valley and the other up to the trig point on Blue Rag. This will be a bush camping weekend. It will be a good opportunity for members that are new to bush camping to try out their equipment and use it as a shake down trip. Its a good opportunity for anyone that has not been bush camping before to try it out and learn form the experience. I would be happy to help you plan for the trip, if needed. We will have plenty of time to relax by the river and the campfire at night. I will bring my Pizza oven for a pizza night too. This has always been a highlight of these trips.
