Hi there everybody and a very warm welcome to all new members to our special club.
May was avery busy month especially for your committee. Finalising the printing of the Exceed Magazine, New Web Site, Annual General Meeting, and new guidelines for forum input were just a few of the issues addressed and actioned by the committee.
This edition of the Exceed magazine (June 2006) is in my view a ‘Collectors Edition’. This is the last Exceed magazine to be copied by Jim Payton on the clubs copying machine. For close to 17 years, Jim has given his time and service to ensure a quality magazine was completed ready for collation each month. Bill Mead, ‘Jim’s trusty assistant, had the tedious job of maintaining the temperamental copying machine each time it spat the dummy – this could be a monthly ritual! On behalf of all members, I would like to thank both Jim and Bill for the tremendous support they have given the Pajero Club. Put this copy of the Exceed Magazine away in a safe place – even in a Time Capsule if you must, and don’t forget the dedication from so many, that has made this medium so significant to all members over the last twenty plus years.
The new Web Site is in the final stages of completion and WOW – what a professional looking site it is. Stewart Bairstow along with other committee members has been burning the midnight oil fine tuning each individual item that makes up the total new Web Site. Stewart will be presenting to all members a comprehensive overview of the new Web Site at the June Members meeting. This is a ‘Not to Miss’ presentation as Stewart will detail fully the ‘User Friendly’ aspect of the site.
Now is the time for all you keen Pajero Club members to be thinking about committee positions coming up for nomination in July. Not all committee members will be continuing in their current role, that includes me as Acting President. Nomination forms have been included with this months Exceed magazine. Please give some thought to nominating for a committee position. Come on all you new and almost new members, we need progressive, positive people to continue the great work that the current committee have done.
At our last meeting in May, Peter Miller addressed the meeting during general business with his concerns over the content of the Pajero Clubs open forum. The main concern was the not the written words but the photos available for viewing linked to the clubs site. It should be noted that Peter Miller and the committee’s concerns did not revolve around any individuals or individual trip that may have been run on the weekend preceding the May meeting. Yes, there was a trip run by experienced club members in the Toolangi area. Yes, the photos did appear through a link on the Clubs forum. Any suggestion that the photos shown were inappropriate is very suggestive and up to each and everybody’s interpretation.
The committee’s concern is not for any individual trip, but for all trips run and posted on the Pajero Club forum. On appraisal by the committee and a representative of 4WD Victoria, of the photos posted on the forum link, an action plan was minuted at the May committee meeting.
Please note: The Pajero 4WD Club of Victoria has always been an avid supporter of minimal impacts driving and our Driver Training Unit has very strong views regarding correct 4WD protocol when participating on a club organised trip.
We will through our Trip and Social committee member and our Forum Moderator, vet all photos posted to ensure that the image is appropriate.
In summary, we all have our views and opinions on different subjects and situation that happen within the club. All members have the right to air there views during general business at the monthly meetings. The committee will on all occasions take the concerns of members into consideration and wherever possible take positive action to bring forward a resolution.
May I also apologise to any member that may feel they were the subject of the forum photo issue. In summary, this issue revolves around all Pajero Club members that participate in organised trips and proudly display a circular Pajero 4WD Club sticker on their vehicle.
The 4x4 Show is coming up again and volunteers will be required to man the stand and promote the attributes of being part of Victoria’s premier club - The Pajero Four Wheel Drive Club. This will be detailed in the July (Yet another Collectors edition) Exceed. As this will be my last year of organising the 4x4 Show – is there anyone in the club who would like to take over in 2007? Pays lousy but the rewards are great.
Finally, don’t forget to renew your membership. Further details elsewhere in the magazine.
Enjoy all your adventures and the company of your fellow club members.
