August 2006 - President's Report

G’day everybody and surprise! We have gone from one Vice President doing this report to another. G’day everybody and surprise! We have gone from one Vice President doing this report to another. As those of you who attended the last meeting would know there were no nominations for the position of President. So whilst I thought to assist in the Vice President’s role I now find myself at the head of the pack. After a bit of horse trading a new plan emerged. At its meeting on 26th July the committee appointed me as President of our club and Carol Reed as Vice President. This was in accordance with the clubs rules (13.6 and 14.6). So our line up of the main committee for the new year is complete.

I want to thank the outgoing committee for the huge effort they have put in during the last year and especially for not leaving us with many ‘hot potatoes’. Special thanks to Ralph and Kayren for filling positions behind casual vacancies. This means the new committee can slot in smoothly and continue the effort.

The July meeting also saw the announcement and presentation of the annual ‘Person Of The Year’ (POTY) award. This year’s the recipients were Peter and Gail Van Riel, this is a richly deserved award which can only be achieved by effort. So congratulation so to Peter and Gail.

The new magazine is looking pretty swish with better quality photos as well. If you are reading this then the process has worked twice.

There are a few special events coming up that members will want to get involved in. The first is the trivia night which is coming up real soon (16th September) more information will be found inside the magazine but start forming your groups, they don’t have to be club members, and bring your money to the next meeting. If last year is anything to go by it will be a real hoot. How can we get better entertainment than last year’s ‘Ballerina Boys’?

This will be closely followed by the September meeting where we are planning to have ‘The 4WD Radio Show’ do one of their shows from our meeting. We will have a short regular meeting then be the ‘audience’ for the show for exactly one hour. The committee are hoping to invite some other smaller clubs to attend also seeing we have a venue that can support a larger audience.

Enjoy your club, see you on a track somewhere.
