Alan Mai and Stuart Schoof compete in the Outback Challenge - finished 6th
26-May-2009
Our own Alan and Stuart have just competed in the Outback Challenge and finished 6th overall - read about their adventure

Well it has been run and won for another year with Greg Scanlon getting a much deserved win after being close a few times. Stu and I came 6th which is my best performance. We were both pretty happy with that and Stu did a great job navigating and mechanicing. We started off slow but came home with a rush with a 3rd in the mud ( the short course re attached pics) a 3rd in a fang up a dry sandy and rocky creek bed at Poolammaca and a 2nd in the new Peg Board navigation event in the rocky gorges at Pooolammaca.Just dissapointed they didn't present medals this year for place getters.

The truck still let us down a few times with a failing winch battery on the sand wall and a mysterious engine problem (electrical?) that bugged us several times that made us stop for long periods to fix. So we could have done better but I guess every one says that.

Anyway we had a lot of fun and adrenalin rushes.

For once we suffered no body damage. Once On Track get the minor problems fixed the Truck is up for sale....its a great package...especially with the radiator in the rear...it never got over 90 degs. The Maxxis tyres were great in the mud and sand. Time to hang up the boots...I was the oldest competitor! Done 10 OBCs now.Time to go touring with Marilyn and an occassional overseas trip.

Cheers for now,
Alan
