Where
is Tolmie ?
|
Tolmie is a small rural town in north-eastern
Victoria, Australia. It is located 22 kilometres north-east of Mansfield.
At the 2006 census, Tolmie had a population of 578. It is 160km or 2hrs 20
mins from Yarra Glen.
The Post Office opened on 1
February 1877 as Wombat, was renamed Tolmie in 1879, and closed in 1971 .
Tolmie holds an annual
community event, known as Tolmie Sports, in February each year and this is
held at the recreation reserve. They have around 2500 people attending this
event so the facilities for the Muster are more than adequate.
Much of the heavily forested
countryside surrounding Tolmie was devastated by bushfires in 2006/07.
