This annual event is organised by the
Pajero 4WD Club of Victoria and has become one of the best and most
challenging self guided, off road navigational events in Australia.
Members of
any 4WD club affiliated with there State 4WD Association can enter the
Challenge, which can easily be undertaken in a standard 4WD vehicle with
good off road tyres.
The Cooper Tires
Pajero Challenge is a 24-hour 4WD navigation competition, split into four
sections, each of which allows 3-4 hours of driving.
Each section includes:
-
driving stage, where the driver and
navigator(s) find their way from point to point, answering questions as
they go. Many teams have multiple navigators and also swap drivers; it's a
team event!
-
checkpoints manned by members from various
clubs
-
special stages such as a written
navigational test
-
compulsory rests, and a campsite at start
finish area
The focus of the event is teamwork,
observation and navigation, not speed or hardcore 4WDing. There is now only
one class of vehicle, Standard; the Modified class has been dropped,
marking a return to the spirit of the original event.
