Club Awards
The Pajero Club gives out 2 awards each year to its
members, the Ironbark Award and the POTY Award. The Clubman
Award has been instituted to give members an opportunity to recognise a
fellow member/members who makes an outstanding one off contribution,
primarily to the Club. The Phil Viney Award is a discretionary award
in the Pajero Challenge.
Ironbark Award
The Ironbark Award was instituted by
Arch Grant, the founding president of the Pajero 4WD Club of Victoria in
1997, to give recognition to those members who serve the club with dedication
over many years, and it is awarded annually.
The name Ironbark was chosen, as it an Australian native
tree that represents toughness and longevity, a characteristic of the
recipient.
The Shield
The Shield is made from a piece of Ironbark that was
recycled from a warehouse on Sydney harbour. It has painted on it the leaf,
flower and fruit of Red Ironbark Mugga Eucalyptus sideroxylon in the centre,
as the motif. It is surrounded by a series small brass plaques on which the
recipients names is inscribed. Smaller replica shields were made from the
remainder of the timber and one is given to the award winner of that year.
Winner Selection
There is a panel made up of three people that chooses who
receives the award for that year, from names submitted by club members. Any
member can nominate someone, the only criteria is the nominated person must
be a club member that has served the club continuously in some capacity for
at least five years.
The Award Panel consists of the founding president, Arch
Grant; the current club president; and the preceding year's winner.

Clubman Award
The Pajero Club is establishing a new member award, the
Clubman Award.
This new award was suggested as there are generally two
(2) opportunities for members of the Pajero Club to receive recognition from
fellow members for their actions/endeavours/behaviour/effort. The current
awards are the highly esteemed Ironbark Award and the Potty Award. These
awards are awarded annually.
The concept of the Clubman Award is to give members
an opportunity to recognise a fellow member/members who makes an outstanding
one off contribution, primarily to the Club; whose actions in a particular
circumstance are judged by others present to be meritorious and deserving of
recognition, or the conduct of a Club member which in itself represents an
effort above the norm.
It is envisaged that this award should probably not be
awarded to members of the Club who have willingly undertaken to perform
roles/responsibilities, however this does not disallow committee members from
being nominated for the award in their own right.
The process is simple:
A member completes the nomination form, including the
citation, which will be read at the time of the presentation of the Award.
The completed nomination form is submitted to the Club
Secretary. This nomination will then be tabled at the following Committee
Meeting and if considered suitable for the Award, will be presented at the
next General Meeting of Members. The President will read the citation and
present the award to the nominee. The name of the nominator will remain
anonymous.
